The FAT-I Flame Arrester, a Pipeline Detonation Flame Arrester, is designed to prevent flame penetration during pipeline detonations. The installation of this type of arrester is critically limited by the distance L from the source of ignition. When this distance exceeds the specified ratio of L/D by n times (where L is greater than n times the pipe diameter D), a detonation flame arrester must be used. This ratio is determined by the arrester’s size and design model. Detonation flame arresters cannot prevent detonations or sustained flame penetration. If the operational conditions cannot eliminate prolonged combustion, the installation of temperature sensors is necessary.
